Nothing New Under the Sun - Ecclesiastes, Gann, and the Law of Repetition

The Peace That Came with Perfect Timing

In recent days, I watched, transfixed, as one of the most extraordinary peace deals in modern history unfolded live from Israel.

The moment when the remaining hostages - those still alive after two harrowing years in captivity - were finally returned to their families.

The deal, brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump, achieved what no one else on this planet could have done. An end to what was termed in Israel “the forever war.”

But the timing, from a cyclical perspective, has been uncanny.

The date of the October 7, 2023 attack came exactly fifty years - the second harmonic of the 100-year cycle - after the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War on October 6, 1973.

In both cases, Israel was attacked on one of its holiest days. First on Yom Kippur (the holiest day of the year), then on Simchat Torah (a major holiday that celebrates the completion of the annual Torah reading cycle).

When Cycles Collide - The 50-year Repeat

The 1973 Yom Kippur War lasted less than three weeks, yet it reshaped the Middle East. It set the stage for the Camp David peace accords that followed later in the decade and triggered the global oil crisis that rang the bell at the end of the early-1970s land price collapse.

Fifty years later, and the 2023 Simchat Torah War ushered in one of the darkest periods in Israel’s history. More than a thousand people - among them babies, children, teenagers, and the elderly - were raped, mutilated and slaughtered on that day.  Many others taken captive, in one of the most brutal attacks the nation has ever endured.

Likely the events that follow the peace agreement in the coming months, will bring us to the end of this land cycle.
