It still astounds me how knowledge of an 18- year cycle is not firmly embedded into the psychology of every market operator today.
The skill of predicting market movements based on the consistent rhythm of boom and bust, averaging 18 years, was employed by some legendary market forecasters.

W.D. Gann
William Delbert Gann (1878 – 1955) for example. Probably the most famous of all stock market traders.
Although Gann did not write directly about an 18-year cycle, there is some reference to it in his work and the financial timetable that's ascribed to him (shown below.)
