Brisbane's Olympic Property Boom.. Will the Real Windfall Gains Come After the Crash?

When Brisbane was announced as host city for the 2032 Olympic Games and Paralympics (albeit in a one-horse race), it created a wave of excitement among property spruikers.

The date of the Olympics in 2032 falls bang around the start of the next land cycle (from a bottom of around 2028/9–2046).

Throughout the second half of this cycle, speculators have been jumping in and punting on future land price inflation in and around the city.

I still get subscribers writing to me every month or two, questioning whether the Olympics will drive Brisbane's recovery in the first half of the next cycle, or whether the infrastructure spending will cause the current downturn in land prices to reverse or simply plateau.

I'd love to give a straight forward, yes, or no, answer. But, the truth is, when it comes to assessing if the Olympics can cause the dial to move, it's dependent on a whole host of local factors - and it's not at all easy to seperate the influence of the olympics from other reginal factors.
