(PLUS! Catherine Cashmore Answers the Question, Is Commercial Property Really the Better Bet After the Federal Budget?.. )
This week, I reached out to my good friend, Callum Newman, to get his thoughts on where the Australian share market is headed from here.
Callum has covered the ASX, resource stocks and the broader mining cycle for more than 15 years, including almost a decade as a small-cap security analyst. His work has appeared in Money magazine, LiveWire, Marcus Today and Fat Tail Investment Research, and he now writes for mining.com.au.
You can check also check out Callum's daily notes on the markets at his substack, Stockfindr. Better still - it’s free!
Given the close relationship between the land cycle, liquidity and the resource sector, I thought his perspective was well worth sharing.

I chime in to examine whether the Federal Budget has really made commercial property the next logical investment destination. With tax changes encouraging more capital into the sector just as Australia enters the final stage of the land cycle, I take a look back at what happened to commercial property during previous cycles to forecast ahead...
For now, over to Callum.. !
My Mantra for the Australian Stock Market...
A friend texted me the other night. He wondered if a 6% return on his
super fund this financial year was any good. His tone was disappointed.
Truth be told, a positive return isn’t something to dismiss for Australian
investors. It’s been a tough 6 months.
We’ve seen interest rate expectations reverse, property slump, oil spike
and the ‘SaaSpocalypse’ smash the Australian tech sector. Blue chip
firms like CSL, COH and even CBA are under pressure.
Only the resource sector, generally speaking, gave alpha potential, at
least on the ASX.
Internationally, you needed to own Japan, South Korea or the
semiconductor sector – not the usual make up for Australian portfolios.
